Looking for a classroom theme that will help to create a calm, homey environment, while still adding a touch of playfulness? Calm & Cool was created to offer a new option for teachers who want a calming color palette and simple patterns that are both trendy and functional. We have a full white paper on the thoughts and design put behind this line that we will be sharing soon, so check back later. But to give you a quick recap, we took into consideration the popular Hygge (pronounced hue-guh not hoo-gah) design concept and paired it with popular colors like blush, navy, gray and teal. Adding a bit of fun, we also included ice pops and hot air balloons.
Hygge is a Danish and Norwegian word for a mood of coziness and comfortable conviviality with feelings of wellness and contentment. “Calm is defined as a sense of internal composure that lets us function to the best of our abilities. It is the ideal state of the brain, supported by a body completely allied with it, allowing us to harness our cognitive powers while maintaining a balance with our emotions. When you are calm, you are in your zone, unperturbed by distractions or distress.” —Gayatri Devi, MD, neurologist and author of A Calm Brain
