HOW YOU CAN HELP SUPPORT LEARNING
Encourage your child to use the following strategies to develop automatic recall of subtraction facts:

  • Counting back if the subtracted number is small (start with the larger number and count back by the second one)
  • Use related addition facts (e.g., for 13 – 5, think 5 + ? = 13)
  • Subtract from 10 (recognize the fact families for sums to 10)
  • Use doubles facts (e.g., 14 – 7 = 7)
  • Use doubles facts plus or minus one (e.g., 14 – 7 = 7, so 15 – 7 is one more [8]; 14 – 7 = 7, so 13 – 7 is one less [6])

Please note: In the eBook version of this title, stickers are not included.
