Each lesson is based on a familiar children's book. These books help inspire students in their own writing and serve as models of specific characteristics of good writing. As students read and/or listen to stories, they learn to recognize familiar patterns within the literature. Then, invite them to write their own innovations on the text patterns.
As students begin to make the reading-writing connection, they gradually gain the skills and confidence to write their own stories. Soon students will be on their way toward becoming more proficient writers!
